An inspiring academic and consultant in education and psychology, dedicated to advancing doctoral supervision at UCL IOE.

Dr. Maria Kambouri is an Associate Professor at the UCL Institute of Education, University of London. With a PhD in Psychology from New York University and an MSc in Mathematics and Statistics from LSE, she brings a rare interdisciplinary perspective to the field of doctoral supervision. Her work bridges applied psychology, digital education, and curriculum development.

Over the past two decades, Dr. Kambouri has also made a significant impact as an educational and research consultant. She has led projects commissioned by a range of public bodies and institutions, including the Department for Education and Skills, the Learning and Skills Development Agency, and the National Research and Development Centre for Adult Literacy and Numeracy. Her consultancy work has consistently focused on improving access, inclusion, and quality in education.

Her academic journey at UCL IOE includes leadership roles such as Ethics Coordinator (2006–2012) and Departmental Graduate Tutor (2005–2020), reflecting her commitment to fostering ethical research and mentoring early-career academics.

Dr. Kambouri’s research focuses on the intersection of technology, education, and social inclusion. She explores the use of ICT in adult learning, including computer-based assessment, educational games, and digital tools that support literacy and numeracy. Her work also covers areas such as human-centred computing, augmented reality in education, curriculum innovation, and applied psychology.

With deep ties to Greece, France, Belgium, Egypt, and the United States, Dr. Kambouri brings an international and multicultural lens to her research and teaching. Fluent in Greek, French, and Italian, she engages with global academic communities to foster equity in education across diverse contexts.

Her work directly aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and Goal 4 (Quality Education), underscoring her focus on the societal impact of inclusive education and developmental psychology.
